Distance Drive with a 100 Mile View (Prospect Mountain)

Event Outline- We will be taking a drive from Albany to ADK on August 15th. Starting at the Guilderland Supercharger, we will have a quick stop at the Queensbury Supercharger, and a our final destination will be the top parking lot at Prospect Mountain just beneath the summit. There is 5.5-mile long route up to top with overlook areas that we will pull off to enjoy the view and take photos. There is typically a $10 fee to enter, but the entrance fee has been currently waived, so this event is completely free (except for the cost of electricity to charge your car).  You may also want to bring snack with you so that you can rest at the top and stay for a while, please note that the pavilion and restrooms are closed, and picnicking is not allowed*

I am requesting that you download an app called  Zello- It is a walkie talkie style app, it will be very helpful in case we get separated and need to pull over to regroup, you can also text through the app. The channel name to join is- TOCNYS: Capital-Saratoga

You can also scan this QR code once in the app to join-

Our initial meetup location will be at the Guilderland Supercharger located at the Crossgates Mall, attendees should plan to arrive at 9:45am as we will leave in formation around 10:00 am.

From the Guilderland Supercharger we will take the ~45 minute drive on I-87 up to the Queensbury Supercharger located in the parking lot of the Aviation Mall. Once we arrive at this charger, we will wait 15 minutes to allow for any TOCNYS members to link up with us here before we venture on to our final destination of the day. We will depart this station around 11:00 am

From the Queensbury Supercharger, we will head out in formation over to Prospect Mountain, the drive over is about 20 minutes. Once we arrive, I will ensure that the whole group is together, we will then begin our climb to the first overlook stop until we reach the final parking lot.

Once we have arrived at our final destination, we'll make sure to take some great group photos, we will try to park in the back of the lot and leave one spot between each car. Please remember to bring PPE for yourself and to follow local guidelines on physical distancing ). This website says that the trail to the summit is closed, it's not clear if they are talking about the final trail for the top parking lot or the entire hiking trail*

Check out these two sites for more information on Prospect Mountain:

     https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/113217.html

After you have had you fill at the top, you may also want to go into the town for lunch or a walk, the beach to tan/swim, or even a hike (I suggest Buck Mountain)

We’ve been talking about this for quite some time now and it’s finally here. Technically, we will not be racing, but we will have the ability to take three laps around the raceway.

They are asking us to be there at 11 AM which is one hour before we will start to complete paperwork, pay, and some other administrative items.   The cost is $30 for three laps. There could be quite a few people that are coming from different areas of New York state, so for most, it will be easier to just meet there at 11 AM. For those living in the Rochester area, we will meet at the Eastview Mall supercharger at 9:15 AM. It takes roughly 1 hour and 30 minutes to get there.

CHARGING - I'm sure there are concerns about getting down there and back from a range standpoint. It's roughly 80 miles from Rochester.  To give you an idea, I currently have 88% state of charge at the moment and a round trip there and back from Rochester would get me back at 36%.  Yes, we have to take into account the actual laps we will be driving also.  If that's a concern, on your way back north, you can always top off at the Waterloo Super Charger station which in 49 miles away OR head east a bit to Ithaca and top off there which is 28 miles away.

COVID UPDATE - There’s no reason for any of us to actually get out of our vehicles at all. Everything can be done through the window. Having said that, because of the time period that we are in, they advised me that everyone needs to have their temperature taken. They can do this by just coming up to your vehicle and scanning your forehead without touching you.

Hoping to see a lot of you there!

Hosted by the NYC Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club for the Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps, this Motorcycle/Custom car Ride is a NYC permitted parade in remembrance on the 19th Anniversary of those who served, protected, volunteered, and lost their lives that tragic day.

    • This is following on 2019's successful event, in which TOCNYS had member participation

    • Though $100/car is the advertised cost, discounts for everyone might be available with greater attendance numbers (we'll cover these details with registrants as the event nears)

    • Long Island TOCNYS member Keith S. has offered to house any other members coming from out of the area to attend the event

    • Registration begins at 8 AM, Parade starts at 1 PM

On 9/11 one of those lost was Richard Allen Pearlman, the youngest first responder lost that day. He joined the Forest Hills Ambulance Corps at the age of 14 as a Junior Corps member and excelled in the position of Dispatcher and at 18 joined the Senior Corps. Richie headed to the WTC on foot from his job at a law firm and was ordered back to his job by his employer for safety reasons, but remained at the WTC site. A picture on pages 16-17 in Newsweek's Extra Edition of America Under Attack shows Richie aiding the injured. He was only 18 years old. We have named the ride in his honor, "Run For Richie".

All pre-registered riders will receive a FREE commemorative challenge coin. Your coin is GUARANTEED. If you cannot attend the ride, it will be shipped to you after the event!!!

National Drive Electric Week Delmar • Sep 27, 2020

Take part in our 8th annual National Drive Electric Week event!

This is an opportunity for EV enthusiasts and auto dealers to showcase pure electric vehicles to the public in a relaxed open venue free of manufacturer, technical, or political bias. The goal is to get people excited about modern EVs while giving them the opportunity to get up close and personal with them, as well as making EV test drives available from local dealers. It’s also a chance to help inform the public about electric vehicles. Like any new technology, there are still some prevalent misconceptions and lots of questions that the public has. With a range of EVs on the road, there is an electric car for every lifestyle.

Local dealers will be bringing new EVs for test drives. We welcome participation from local car dealerships, EV owners, renewable energy companies, utility companies, and anyone else that is part of the electric vehicle eco-system.

    Fun for the whole family

     Free Admission

Take part in our EV group photo. There will be a farmers market next door with lots of delicious food.

There will be Solar power vendor displays to show the advantages of making your own clean energy and savings.

Thanks to the Delmar farmers market for hosting the 2019 Capital District National Drive Electric Week event.

The Delmar Farmers Market mission aligns well with the goals of this event, their mission is to provide a marketplace that introduces local farmers and other food producers and craftspeople to the community. We will promote sustainable farming, healthy foods, environmental awareness, and support local and fair trade businesses.

For more information about the market visit https://delmarmarket.org/
