Lake Placid Supercharger

My family has a camp in Newcomb in the Adirondacks and I really enjoy my S70D on the mountain roads Coming up from Albany. When I got my car late in December 2019 the only supercharger north of Albany was in Queensbury.  It worked ok but I was thrilled to discover the Chestertown Supercharger earlier this year and I just saw that the long awaited Supercharger in Lake Placid is finally installed and running. There have been destination chargers but having a supercharger in Lake Placid will be huge for day trippers.  In a area as remote as the Adirondacks the more options the better!

    All:

I took a trip up yesterday, stopping at the new Exit 25 Stewarts in Chestertown. Much to my happiness and surprise, the new Stewarts is the host of the new Tesla supercharger station. There are 5 stalls, which appeared to me to be V2. They are fully installed but the "power switch" hasn't been activated yet. I plugged in but was told to "check the power source". The local workers had no information about when it would be turned on.

So - sounds like this is definitely coming and very, very soon!! :)

I travel up from Rochester many times a year to Lake Placid. I can't wait for this to open. A lot of planning ahead is needed when I take my Model 3 LR. I have used the free charger in Keene several times but having a supercharger would make trips a little less stressful.

I have searched the Town of North Elba's planning/zoning board minutes but can't find any reference to Tesla. Probably be some time before they are installed.  :(

Having a Supercharger at Lake Placid would be amazing! I would definitely be more confident to drive my car up there. Who should we reach out to in order to make Lake Placid a priority?

As of today, Tesla is listing Chestertown as a new 2020 Supercharger location. (They also pushed back the target 2019 Lake Placid Supercharger opening date to 2020.)

While in Lake Placid for Thanksgiving 2019, I met a local who said her brother worked for Tesla, and that it was going into the lot at a PriceChopper Supermarket in Lake Placid (she said its “in town” and clarified that meant in Lake Placid).

It isn't great being up there in winter without a Supercharger. I used Queensbury, but the loss of charge in 1 degree weather (Mirror Lake went from 98% water to 100% ice and snow on surface in one cold night)

Funny enough, we noticed several Tesla’s in town.

Seems like its time to get that Supercharger installed.  I know every place I used one on that long trip I spent at least 30-50 bucks in the time we were there... so it surely seems good for every party involved!

Me too! My parents have a cabin in Long Lake and we travel up to Lake Placid frequently for shopping and meals. The cabin only has 110V currently so charging is a bit slow.  There are few other options in the area though. The Adirondack Experience museum in Blue Mt. Lake has a free level 2 ChargePoint charger (2 stalls/J1772 plugs) that will get you back about 25 miles/hour while you enjoy the museum. Not sure if you go that far southwest of Lake Placid, but you mentioned Tupper Lake which is just a couple of towns away from Blue Mt. Lake. Also, in Lake Placid itself, the Best Western has a couple of spots with destination chargers. We paid $10 to park there for the day and added about 175 miles of range.  It's recommended that you call ahead to make sure they are not taken by hotel guests.

Has anyone seen any updates about where/when the Lake Placid Supercharger will be? I see nothing about it on supercharge.info which is odd. Tesla site still just says "2019" with no additional details.

Patrick, I use the supercharger in Utica NY before I get into the park as I take route 8 through Speculator to my place. Going through Albany adds 45 minutes to the drive. My real problem is once I am in the park. I stay in the park for a week or two driving back and forth from Upper Jay to Keene and Lake Placid and Saranac Lake and Blue Mountain Lake and Tupper Lake, etc. There is no SuperCharger within the park. They are all outside of the park. I know them all and have used them all - Utica, Watertown, Queensbury, Plattsburgh, Albany and Burlington (VT) but they are all outside of the park. It is a pain to drive 45 minutes out of your way and then 45 minutes back just to get a charge. So, I have decided to use my Prius when I go up to my Adirondack home until they put superchargers in Lake Placid.

Brad, there is a SC at Queenbury, a bit south of Lake George. should make your drive easier.

I am looking forward to the planned supercharger in Lake Placid. So far, the only way I can drive my Tesla up to my house in Upper Jay is by charging it in Utica, NY and then charging it again at The Whiteface Lodge while having dinner there. I am looking forward to a public charger up there.  It will be interesting to see where they will locate it. Here are some thoughts - Price Chopper or Hannaford shopping centers or down by the river near Lisa G's and Liquids & Solids at the Handlebar.
