Supercharger Vandals

The culprit is the anonymity which is built-in to these sites.  Breakage and vandalism are part and parcel of putting equipment in public places.

The question is or should be, "How do we design and make supercharger sites the most reliable and safest place to get your fuel day or night?

If we solve that problem then we won't be seeing any more stories in national news relating to some possible downsides of owning an electric car.

How about a story about "Tesla Supercharger sites are safer than gas stations ...crime statistics show."

Ideas: appropriate security system of any type with cameras and monitoring, (like hundreds of thousands of homes have), Superchargers installed in high traffic, high visibility areas, regular police patrol schedules,  cctv,  that would be both a deterrent and a reaction force.

The real risk to property and or life is that there are groups that follow people with high end cars to either  carjack them or rob them when they get a chance.   On a criticality scale of 1 to 10, 1 being no big deal and 10 being a  huge deal, a cut super charger cord is like number 1 for me.. Getting approached by unfriendly people in a not well lit area in the middle of the night  Or broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon is number 500.

In personal security terminology, a supercharger site or a gas station, is a " transitional space."   Transitional spaces at night in an area that you're not familiar with should be concerning to anyone.

And this occurs with non Tesla charging equipment as well. (Even locally!)

Anonymity empowers criminals who steal cables for profit or deface for fun or revenge.

Cameras and bright lighting will help reduce incidents.

What can TOCNYS do, as an influential force,  to become the model for preventing these shenanigans from occuring in NY and other states?

    Ideas anyone?

I was talking to a few people this weekend at the meet up about the super chargers being cut in Cincinnati. Here’s the article:
