A local garage did my inspection.  No problem, except the I think I annoyed them with my concern about the lifting the car correctly and using my jack pads (which they did not use, but also said they did not have to lift the car).  They seemed to know what they were doing, and this was not the first Tesla they've had in the shop.  So I stayed out of the way and kept quiet.  The charge was only $10 instead of the usual $21.  They said that was because it was a new car.  Maybe, I haven't had a brand new car since 1994.

I just use my same local mechanic that I have been using. Simple and straight forward without emissions.

Tesla confirmed that they don't do NYS vehicle inspections.

I will talk to a local shop and see if we can get it done.

Just FYI, I believe Tesla in general does not perform NYS inspections. The reason being is that NYS law requires any permitted inspection station to inspect any make or model that presents for inspection. As Tesla would likely prefer to not have to purchase emission testing equipment (and likely air handling equipment for their shops) that is otherwise unnecessary, they have chosen to just not do inspections at all. So if you're considering traveling, make sure you call and confirm first.

Hi Gary. Congratulations on reaching this milestone.

FWIW, my mobile service tech recommended a national tire chain where I get my rotations done. They are familiar with Model 3 and know not to invoice for the emissions portion of the inspection. That brings down the grand total to $10.

I know that AAA performs them at their service centers, too, but haven't had the opportunity to try them yet. I've seen them offer $10-off coupons for inspections, but I'm not sure which half that applies to. . . . ;-)

Good luck and please let us know what you end up doing.

What have you all been doing for the NYS annual inspection?  Have you taken the car to a Tesla Service Center, or used an independent inspection station?  I'm leaning toward Tesla, but they are quite a distance away.

I'm in the Catskills Region, near Kingston, if anyone has an recommendations.  My local independent guy is closing down his shop, so I need to find alternatives.   I do have a set of jack pads, but there's only a small number of Teslas around here so shops probably have limited experience with lifting the car.

My car was delivered October 16, 2018, September 2018 build, VIN number 70775.
