Tesla Cybertruck Finally Unveiled with a Surprise Cyberquad ATV - This Week in Tesla

The Numbers

When the Tesla pickup was announced, CEO Elon Musk said that they would undercut competitors in regards to what the truck is capable of. Seeing the numbers below, Tesla definitely proved that the electric truck is here to stay. The big question everyone had going into the event was regarding what the actual design of the truck would be. Although it was said to be futuristic, no one could have expected just how futuristic the Truck would end up being.

Between the wedge shaped front end, and the military looking side profile, it truly looks like nothing else. The performance “tri motor” version of the truck will be able to propel the weighty machine to 60mph in less than 2.9 seconds. This number is a huge achievement for the upcoming battery pack and motor designs, that they could make a pickup truck, much heavier than the Model 3, go faster to 60.

The starting price of the new truck will be $39,900 which greatly undercuts the previously promised, “under 50k” that was announced a few years ago. The price point also bodes very well for Tesla, showing that they can reduce their production costs to the point where they can afford to sell a pickup truck that is much more advanced than their competitors at a similar price point. The range of up to 500+ miles is also a massive feat, proving that electric cars can have similar range to their gas guzzling counterparts. With more and more superchargers being installed, the mass market appeal will only grow.

The Window Demo

With all new technologies and products, the demos do not always work, as was the case with last night’s pickup unveil. It all started with a demo of two panels of glass, one being Tesla’s new “armor glass” and the other being standard car window glass, having metal balls dropped on them. Of course the standard car glass failed on the first drop and the “armor glass” survived a few. The next thing Elon asked, to demonstrate the toughness of the truck, was for Tesla lead designer Franz von Holzhausen to throw one of the balls at a window of the prototype truck they had on stage. Unfortunately, not just one, but both of the drivers side windows were cracked from the impact, and the demonstration failed. Although this is not exactly the best look for the company, there have been many high-profile tech demo failures. One such example is the debut of Apple’s Faceid, which has since become a greatly loved feature. As far as the ATV goes, there is not much to report as nothing was really announced other than that it exists.

So what do you think about the design - the wave of the future or a curious novelty? Love to hear you thoughts in the comments!
